Résumé

À partir de la description croisée d’un parcours professionnel, d’un projet de recherche-action et du fonctionnement d’une équipe de recherche interdisciplinaire, cet article présente comment un doctorant en sciences de l’environnement, en reprise d’études, construit une posture de recherche par, avec et pour l’opérationnalité. Ce témoignage porte d’abord sur ses expériences dans le monde de l’assainissement écologique. Il se poursuit par la construction et l’animation d’un projet dédié à une gestion soutenable des urines humaines via leur valorisation agricole sous la forme d’un fertilisant appelé lisain. Un regard réflexif est porté sur cette entrée dans une recherche transdisciplinaire et transformative croisant savoirs expérientiels et académiques. Celle-ci mobilise les méthodes des sciences sociales pour produire des savoirs qui participent à des transformations pratiques dans la gestion des urines. Les auteurs montrent en quoi cette recherche-action autant que la mise en relation de mondes différents qui l’accompagne engendrent des tensions qui s’avèrent productives pour la production et la mise en œuvre de ces savoirs.

Abstract

Based on the joint description of a professional career, an action research project and the functioning of an interdisciplinary research team, this article shows how a doctoral student returning to his studies in environmental sciences builds a research approach through, with and for operationality. This account is based on his experiences in the field of ecological sanitation followed by the development and coordination of a project targeting the sustainable management of human urine through the production of a fertiliser named lisain. The authors take a back and reflexive look at his entry into this transdisciplinary and transformative research, combining experiential and academic knowledge. The doctoral student draws on the social sciences and qualitative research to produce knowledge which contributes to practical changes in the management of human urine. The authors show that action research, as well as the interplay between different domains, generates tensions that prove profitable in producing and implementing this knowledge.
